I have read all the mixed reviews about these brake pads, I purchased them in hopes of deleteing the sqeaking appearance from the brakes. 'Emotions on hold' as KOMO covers a tragedy in its own family

It was the worst of days for KOMO-TV employees who witnessed the immediate aftermath of a helicopter crash that killed two contract employees, including one who had been a longtime staff photographer, and seriously injured a third man on the ground.

Station employees were working at their desks at Fisher Plaza at about 7:40 a.m. when they heard tree branches snapping, then car horns sounding, said longtime anchor Dan Lewis. They rushed to their office windows and watched in horror as a helicopter carrying two of their colleagues burned after crashing seconds before. Reporter Kelly Koopmans reported on air that explosions from the helicopter continued 20 minutes after the crash.

Corwin Haeck, a KOMO news radio reporter, said he heard the crash from the KOMO newsroom, grabbed his microphone and recorder, and rushed down to the street. I couldnt believe what I was seeing in front of my eyes. Our own news chopper in a ball of fire.

A short time later, Haeck saw a man emerge from one of the damaged vehicles and collapse in the street.

That man, Richard Newman, 38, of Seattle, is being treated for severe burns. The victims who died in the helicopter have been identified as Bill Strothman, 62, who had been a longtime station photographer before working as a contractor, and contract pilot Gary Pfitzner, 59.

This is something that happened to our family, Haeck said, adding that KOMO staffers were struggling to put our emotions on hold long enough to get and report the story.

Haeck, who has worked at KOMO for 10 years but did not know the victims, said the newsroom was distraught.

Everybodys broken up. These are our colleagues, he said. These are people that put themselves in danger every day.

Despite the emotions of the morning, Haeck said the broadcast journalists jumped into action immediately after seeing the crash.

Every day we come to work and understand something tragic could happen, and its our job to report it, he said. This is no different.

Lewis said he was about to board a plane for Washington, D.C., where he had a date to interview President Obama. He rushed back to the KOMO newsroom, where he and co-anchor Eric Johnson continued to report live on the tragedy.

Lewis tone veered from straight-on commentary, as he discussed the likely progress of an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, to a voice that threatened to break as he reported the death of his colleagues. This is a television station thats in a state of shock, he said.

Johnson said that we are a TV station thats in mourning. Its a crushing and devastating day.

The coming and going of the news helicopter from the roof of the building had been a routine sound for KOMO employees, Lewis said. But this time, Johnson added, employees heard a strange sound that didnt seem right just before the crash.

Television journalists witness tragedies every day, Lewis said, but this one struck at the heart of the KOMO family. That emotional connection was visible on the scene, as the stations reporters broke into tears between their live reports.

Denise Whitaker, a KOMO reporter, said on air that KOMO employees were comforted by bystanders who stopped as they passed the scene of the accident and offered condolences. Expressions of sympathy also streamed in via social media.

For typically dispassionate journalists, such personal ties to a story are rare.

Newspeople try to put tragedy in a framework of news and information, to keep it at arms length, said Doug Underwood, a UW communications professor and author of Chronicling Trauma: Journalists and Writers on Violence and Loss. They distance themselves by telling themselves, These are bad things that happen to other people, he said.

What a lot of research shows is that this isnt necessarily a strategy that works, and that the effect of trauma can come out in unexpected ways, said Underwood, a former Seattle Times staffer. They might have immediate problems flashbacks, insomnia, panic attacks or problems that manifest later, such as deteriorating family relationships and substance abuse.

News organizations can help by knowing the signs of trauma and providing support for those who are suffering, he said.

For now, KOMO employees are trying to focus on any positives they can find in this tragedy that hit so close to home.

Lewis pointed out that the crash could have been much worse: If this had been a summer day when the tourists were out, it would have magnified the tragedy ...

And Johnson fondly remembered the pilot he saw every day. When it was a nice day he would say, Its a beautiful day. I have the best job in the world when its a beautiful day.

They did not come with directions but are positively easy to map out and easy ample to bed in at the pinch bolt area of the forks. Relocating the turn signals to the forks actually cleans up the look of the bike. I highly urge these mounts to anyone who desires to move their turn signals off the handlebars and down to the forks. I earlier had a differet set that clamped almost the forks but they were cheaply made and the chrome flaked and peeled. These are of a very good feature and look as if they were made with the bike.

Here's a thesis at the heart of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey: Science is engaging and entertaining.

An eclectic group that includes astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and Ann Druyan, who co-wrote the 1980 Cosmos: A Personal Voyage with her late husband, Carl Sagan, will put that theory to the test. A 13-part journey through the universe and beyond kicks off Sunday (9 p.m. ET/PT) on 10 networks, led by Fox and National Geographic Channel, with an introduction by President Obama.

"The goal is to convey why science matters to the person, to our society, to us as shepherds of this planet. It involves presenting science in ways that connect to you, so Cosmos can influence you not only intellectually but emotionally, with a celebration of wonder and awe," says Tyson. "Science should be part of everybody's life. The prerequisite is not that you become a scientist. It's that at the end of the series, you will embrace science and recognize its role in who and what you are."

Host Tyson traveled to several locations around the world as part of the big-budget production, but he ventures much farther onscreen via the Ship of the Imagination, a souped-up, modern version of the vehicle in astronomer and author Carl Sagan's original Cosmos on PBS. This ship can go near as in a nine-minute voyage to the bottom of a dew drop and far, as in the Kraken sea on Saturn's moon Titan. And even farther, as Tyson speculates about the Multiverse, an infinite sea of universes.

He credits MacFarlane, a science enthusiast who enjoyed the original Cosmos, for taking the production somewhere he didn't originally expect it would go: A big, commercial broadcast network, where it might reach beyond core science fans who would watch on a more narrowly focused cable channel. (Episodes will air weekly on Fox, followed by a repeat broadcast with bonus material Monday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on National Geographic.)

Fox executives Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly "both liked the idea of doing something that no one had ever done before. There's really no way of telling how it's going to do. It could be a disaster or it could be a huge hit or somewhere in between," says MacFarlane, who likes having the time slot after Family Guy. "The fans of animation, there's a big crossover (with science), so it's obviously not a hard leap to something like Cosmos."

He suggested using animation, with a graphic-novel look, instead of stuffy, real-life re-enactments with bewigged actors to tell the stories of scientific heroes, "the men and women who helped us find our bearings in space and time," Druyan says. Many are not well known, including Giordano Bruno, a 16th-century Dominican monk eventually burned at the stake for a theory of the universe that contradicted church teachings.

The new Cosmos shares the DNA of the original, says Druyan.

"Both series combine rigorous scientific skepticism with a soaring sense of the romance of life in the cosmos. We tell different stories in the new series, and we have greater capabilities in terms of how much more visually stunning we can make the experience than we could back then," she says.

Besides the ship, the new production brings back the Cosmic Calendar, which tries to put the unfathomable 13.8-billion-year history of the universe in the context of a year, with all of recorded history taking up just the last 14 seconds of Dec. 31.

Showmanship can enhance material that is inherently interesting but often presented in a dry way, says MacFarlane, but he says Cosmos does not "dumb down" its science. A mix of real images and high-tech special effects includes contributions from Matrix and Spider-Man 2 cinematographer Bill Pope, Star Trek series producer Brannon Braga and The Avengers composer Alan Silvestri.

"The best teachers I had in school were the ones who found creative ways to present the material and communicate their own enthusiasm in inventive ways," MacFarlane says, praising Tyson's communication skills and Druyan's narrative style. "It's a show that's supposed to be exciting. When the original Cosmos came out, Carl Sagan said (he wanted) it to be entertaining and flashy, that people who have no interest in science (would) watch just for the spectacle. One of the things that requires is a flashy production style."

Cosmos does not shy from topics that have become politically controversial in some circles, such as climate change and evolution. In the premiere, Tyson notes how forests that grew 300 million years ago became the coal that we burn "to power and imperil our civilization."

He asks: "Is it political if I tell you that if we burn coal, you're going to warm the atmosphere? Or is that a statement of fact that you've made political? It's a scientific statement. The fact that there are elements of society that have made it political, that's a whole other thing," Tyson says. "We're telling you what science tells us about the world and what you do with that information, that's what you do. But I worry that people are making decisions about the world under-informed about what science has to say about the world."

Sunday's premiere opens with Sagan's recorded voice from the original series, which will be woven into episodes along the way, Druyan says. "It's one more way for me to affirm my profound love and respect for him and to continue what he was trying to do, to (share) the knowledge he treasured with everyone."

When the singers don't get it, at least American Idol has people who can take matters into their own hands. Wednesday night, the judges showed the contestants how it's done Keith Urban singing passionate lines back to Jessica Meuse, Jennifer Lopez demonstrating the fine art of the hair flip to Emily Piriz.

The "talented 12," as Ryan Seacrest called them, sang songs of home ones that reminded them of the towns they came from, of family members, of their early days performing.

That made for some unusual songs choices. Rush, David Nail and Blind Pilot all had their songs performed on Idol for the first time. And Ben Briley got deviled eggs, courtesy of Seacrest.

Seacrest also debuted real-time results from the new SuperVote in each hour: Dexter Roberts, Jessica Meuse and Caleb Johnson ruled the first hour, with C.J. Harris, Sam Woolf and Ben Briley proving popular in the second.

The show featured several good performances but no game changers.

Next week, Lopez says, "We need the wow It has to be powerful."

Here's how I ranked the night's performances.

Malaya Watson, Take Me to the King (Tamela Mann). Watson, who has straightened her hair, begins "the first song I ever learned that was gospel" at the piano. She starts singing tentatively, which fits the lyric, "Truth is, I'm tired." By the start of the chorus, she's turned that hesitancy into an asset. Though the song's highest notes are beyond her range, the emotion in her performance is palpable, and the audience responds enthusiastically. Urban raves about her "completely insane power and range." Lopez feels like Watson told her a story; she had goosies and tears. Connick says the choice felt risky but "the message was there." Grade: A-

Caleb Johnson, Working Man (Rush). Johnson covered his "favorite band of all time" and turned in a blistering rendition of a song the younger segment of the audience probably hasn't ever heard. He's turning into the most consistent singer on Idol this season, and his song choice showcased the band, too. "There's a big difference between being consistent and being predictable," Connick tells him, and he wonders, "What can you bring to rock 'n' roll to push it forward?" Urban called him "one of the best singers I've heard in a long time," adding that he needs to figure out what to do without a band around him. Lopez says, "You're what I've been waiting for all night." Grade: A-

Emily Piriz, Let's Get Loud (Jennifer Lopez). One of the best voices in the bunch paid homage to her Latin heritage with a song she used to sing into a hair brush. She paid more attention to staying in the groove of the song than she did singing it, which is a good thing, but she stuck with the musicians more than she worked the crowd, which isn't. Lopez was nervous before Piriz sang her show closer but was thrilled after she'd finished: "I loved it! I'm biased, though." Connick admires the courage it took to sing it, calling the song a locomotive. "You have to match the intensity of the locomotive train," he says, "otherwise you're just going to be a passenger on that train." Urban made a guarantee: "You're going to be here next week. Be more confident." Grade: A-

Dexter Roberts, Lucky Man (Montgomery Gentry). "Mellow Dexter," as Ryan Seacrest calls him, heads back to the farm for his tune, seated on a stool playing acoustic guitar, with the barest elements of a country band behind him. He's probably the night's first performer to accurately convey his home to the viewing audience. Urban's grinning when he finishes: "That was the perfect song, it just was. It's what you do. You've got the perfect voice for it." He likes the liberties Roberts took with the melody and the way he showed his vulnerable side near the end. Lopez thinks the judges are being hard on tonight's singers, but she doesn't have to be hard on him; she was pleasantly surprised by his performance. Connick calls it "unquestionably the best performance of the night so far." Grade: A-

Majesty Rose, Fix You (Coldplay). Majesty Rose comes so, so close to having the performance of the night. The first half of her song is quiet, elegant and beautiful. She loses her focuses when she goes for the big notes. But I don't even care. "You look very much like you belong on the stage," says Connick, who liked the beginning better than the end. Lopez says, "Where you had us was great," but she wishes she'd stayed in that quiet zone. Urban promises her she'll be sticking around another week. Grade: B+

Sam Woolf, Just One (Blind Pilot). Woolf sings this countryish song, sitting on steps at the foot of the stage, surrounded by wide-eyed young women. The director does him all sorts of favors, showing their adoring smiles and several close-ups of Woolf's intense stares. Connick likes the lyrics and finds it a pleasant performance but says Woolf needs a wider emotional range. Urban doesn't disagree, though "I guarantee you'll be here next week, Sam," and he says the tone of Woolf's voice is "like butter." Lopez says he needs to push outside his comfort zone to produce more super-wow moments. Grade: B+

C.J. Harris, Waiting on the World to Change (John Mayer). Harris turns Mayer's song into a slab of barbecued Southern soul, with a side of social commentary. His vocals are earnest and sure, but, oh my goodness, it's time for him to lose that guitar. Lopez is glad he was thinking about a message when he chose his song. Connick said he was sharp, but he still enjoyed it. "Did you admit you could be wrong, Harry?" Urban asks, then turns to Harris and tells him he needs to work on "figuring out a way to make a song more your own. You have to figure that out as an artist. You have to do something different to the song." Grade: B+

Ben Briley, Turning Home (David Nail). Taking Connick's advice from last week not to let himself get too kitschy, Briley turns serious with Nail's nostalgic ballad, emphasized by the Friday Night Lights-style football-field image on the screen behind him. "You had me," Lopez says. "That's what I've been looking for all night." Connick didn't connect with it: "It felt shouted to me. It was OK; it wasn't great." Urban tells him he has an incredible voice and he's in charge of it. "For me, there was so much focus on the technicality and the range I lost the story." Grade: B

Jena Irene, Suddenly I See (K.T. Tunstall). Tunstall's song "symbolizes how close we are as a family," says the Farmington Hills, Mich., native. She looks more animated on stage tonight, very comfortable with her song choice. Afterward, Urban says her stage presence is really coming to life, though he wasn't mad about that particular song for her. Lopez says the uniqueness of her voice's tone makes any song she sings her own. Connick says, "It was great to see that energy, but I wanted more." Grade: B

Jessica Meuse, White Flag (Dido). Meuse has played Dido's song in her sets for years, she says, and her familiarity with the song shows. There's a quaver in her voice, though, that takes her understated performance sharp. Connick found her unfocused and sharp, noting that when she hit her high note, no one applauded, and they always applaud for the glory notes. Urban loves her musicality, and he wasn't bothered by her intonation. "If you really, really mean it, nobody's going to care about the pitch," he says. "If you really sing it, everyone will cheer." Lopez understands their arguments, and says, "I feel like you feel like you're comfortable, but it doesn't come off that way." Grade: B-

Alex Preston, I Don't Wanna Be (Gavin DeGraw). The Mount Vernon, N.H., native comes out in an electric blue suit, with rolled-up pants and white sneakers. He begins DeGraw's songs with some crisp guitar chords, but he and the band seem to be at odds throughout the bluesy arrangement. "It wasn't your best vocal performance, for me," says Lopez, who didn't care for the arrangement, feeling like it overtook his performance. "You have to make sure that it suits the song." Connick, once again, likes how he ends on the nine: He's used to hearing Preston in an intimate setting. "It's nice to see you step out of what I thought was your comfort zone," he said. Though he also felt Preston was overpowered by the arrangement, he admires that the arrangement was Preston's idea. Urban found the performance unstable: "The song was kind of around you, instead of you centering and being in the song," he said, noting that Preston also ran out of breath toward the ends of phrases. Grade: B-

MK Nobilette, Drops of Jupiter (Train). MK gets off to a shaky start with "the first song I think I learned how to play on the piano," standing on the stage by herself strumming her guitar as the audience claps along. Tonight, she crosses the line from vulnerable to nervous. The moment's too big for her, and the director doesn't do her any favors with all those long shots. "Your vocals are fine," Urban says. "You just have to keep connecting how you look with how you sing." He also suggests slinging the guitar behind her when she's not playing it. Lopez thinks it's a nice song but not a breakout performance. Connick says, "I still get the feeling that you don't really want to be here." He suggests practicing the things that make her uncomfortable, that are hard for her. Grade: C-

Look I had the crappy Harley stock speakers in the fairing and they would distort andproduce poor quality signal. Very Happy with my purchase of Hog Tunes speakers. I purchased them for my 2005 Harley Ultra Classic front fearing. When I installed I left one stock lecturer on and the additional a Hog tune to hear the variation. WOW, what a variation. With both of them together I could barely hear the stock. Turns out, you may not be the only one who's been subjected to Blazek's uh professional advice.

Last week, an email response Blazek, a 2013 IABC Communicator of the Year, sent to a job seeker made its way to BuzzFeed Community Forum, another to Imgur, and today, Scene received a third fiery email interaction between Blazek and a native Cleveland jobseeker:

It's what kids do - ask senior executives to link in to them, so they can mine contacts for job leads. That's tacky, not to mention entitled - what in the world do I derive from accepting a stranger's connection request? You earned a "I Don't Know ______" from me today, for such an assumptive move. Please learn that a LinkedIn connection is the equivalent of a personal recommendation. If I haven't heard of someone, met them, or worked with them, why would I ever vouch for them on LinkedIn?
