Coulter went on a rant about the sport, calling it un-American in a column Wednesday headlined, "America's Favorite National Pastime: Hating Soccer."
Readers called the column "contemptible," "uneducated" and "moronic" in comments posted on The Clarion Ledger's website. The Ledger is owned by Gannett, which also owns USA TODAY. Coulter's column is distributed by Universal Press.
"Hahaha this is the biggest lot of nonsense I have ever read," one commenter wrote.

Coulter argues the reason people are watching soccer now is because of Sen. Edward Kennedy's 1965 immigration law.
"I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer," she wrote. "One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time."
She also says soccer is not a "real sport." A real sport, she argues, requires individual achievement and "the prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury."
"Do they even have MVPs in soccer? Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in," she wrote.
Tweeters also joined in on the chorus of criticism.
"Ann Coulter meets a new low. I have no words. Probably the worst column I've read. And I don't even like soccer," one person tweeted.
Some wondered if the writing was satire or "the most compelling piece of performance art you've ever seen?"

Hillary Clinton claims her family was "dead broke" and saddled with legal bills after she and Bill Clinton left the White House -- a comment that drew ridicule Monday from Republicans.
The former first lady made the remarks to ABC News in an interview that aired Monday.
"We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton told ABC News. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea's education. You know, it was not easy."
The Clintons, though, did all right for themselves, and quickly -- Bill Clinton almost immediately hit the speaking circuit, making millions along the way.
Meanwhile, despite the family's debt, they got help back in 1999 from fundraiser Terry McAuliffe (now, the governor of Virginia) to secure a loan for a $1.7 million home in Chappaqua, N.Y. The home helped Hillary Clinton claim residency so she could run for Senate.
By 2009, when Hillary Clinton was preparing to join President Obama's administration as secretary of State, the Clintons' wealth was somewhere between $10 million and $50 million.
Republicans seized on the "dead broke" comment and said it demonstrated that Clinton, the Democratic Party's strongest contender for its 2016 presidential nomination, was out of touch.
"How out of touch is Hillary Clinton when `dead broke' (equals) mansions & massive speaking fees?" tweeted Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus.
Since leaving the White House, former President Bill Clinton earned a fortune in speaking fees.
Hillary Clinton's Senate financial disclosure forms, filed for 2000, show assets between $781,000 and almost $1.8 million at the time. The forms allow senators to report assets in broad ranges.
The same form, however, shows the Clintons owed between $2.3 million and $10.6 million in legal fees to four firms. The Clintons paid off their legal bills by 2004, though, according to Senate disclosure forms.
Clinton also said that she feels emboldened to run for president because of Republican criticism of her handling of the deadly 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya. She has said she has not yet decided if she will run.
Clinton said the Benghazi inquiry from Republicans gives her a greater incentive to run for president because she considers the multiple investigations into the attacks "minor league ball" for a country of the United States' stature.
"It's more of a reason to run, because I do not believe our great country should be playing minor league ball. We ought to be in the majors," Clinton said. "I view this as really apart from -- even a diversion from -- the hard work that the Congress should be doing about the problems facing our country and the world."
Multiple independent, bipartisan and Republican-led investigations have faulted the State Department for inadequate security in Benghazi, leading to four demotions. No attacker has been arrested.
Obama and Clinton allies alike have argued that there is no new information following more than a dozen public hearings and the release of 25,000 pages of documents.
In her book, Clinton calls the accusations plainly political, writing that she will not be "part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans."
Asked whether she will testify before a new congressional committee investigating the attacks, Clinton would not make any commitments, saying it depends on how the inquiry is conducted.
"I'm not going to say one way or another," Clinton said. "We'll see what they decide to do, how they conduct themselves: Whether this is one more travesty about the loss of four Americans or whether this is in the best tradition of the Congress, an effort to try and figure out what we can do better."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

George Jung -- the prolific cocaine smuggler portrayed by Johnny Depp in the movie Blow -- has been released from prison after serving almost 20 years behind bars -- and TMZ has a pic of his first moments of freedom.
Jung (now 71-years-old) was doing time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey and was supposed to be released in November ... but for some reason the ex-drug smuggler got out early.
For those of you who haven't seen the movie ... Jung was one of the biggest coke dealers of the '70s and '80s -- and was said to be responsible for roughly 89% of cocaine smuggled into the country at the time.
Sources tell us Jung is being released to a half-way house on the West Coast ... where he'll receive help transitioning back into society.

10 CONNECT LINKEDINEMAILMOREThe defending champion Chicago Blackhawks' best strategy for taking down the Los Angeles Kings in Sunday's Game 7 (8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network) might simply be to know thyself.
When the Blackhawks analyze the Kings, it is like looking in the mirror.
MORE: Rangers form special bond
The teams have a number of similarities, including the fact they are both dangerous offensive teams. In an era when goals are challenging to produce, the winning team has scored three or more goals in all six games.
Here are six matchups that matter as the teams determine who'll face the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final:
Anze Kopitar vs. Jonathan Toews: The Selke Trophy finalists are exceptional two-way forwards. They have faced each other often in this series, and neither coach seems to mind that matchup. The Kings' Kopitar leads the NHL in playoff scoring with 23 points in 21 games. However, he doesn't have a goal in the Western Conference Final and has four assists in the six games.
The Kings have won two Game 7 on the road this spring, and Kopitar has totaled two goals and two assists in those games. It's not much of a leap to conclude that if he has a big game, the Kings will win Game 7. Toews probably knows that as well.
Toews has been the more productive of the two in the series, registering three goals and three assists. Plus, he has scored four game-winning goals in Chicago's 11 playoff wins this spring.
Marian Gaborik vs. Patrick Kane: Kane is the Blackhawks' most dangerous goal scorer, and Gaborik has become that player for the Kings.
MORE: Kane leads Game 6 win
Gaborik leads all NHL playoff scorers with 11 goals, but Kane has a history of scoring big goals in big games. The dynamic small winger has two goals and five assists over the past two games as Chicago rallied from a 3-1 series deficit.
Gaborik has been shut out in four of the games in this series. The Kings need him to match or better Kane's production.
Drew Doughty vs. Duncan Keith: Chicago's Keith is expected to win the Norris Trophy as the regular season's best defenseman, but he might be the second-best defenseman in this series in terms of impact on his team.

Last SlideNext SlideDoughty has had three goals and four assists in this series, making him the team's second-highest scorer. He has been a visible presence. But Keith had the tying goal in third period of Game 6.
Game 7 would dictate that both defensemen play a safer brand of hockey, and that might favor Keith. Maybe it's a toss-up. Both players are capable of being difference-makers.
Carter and Co. vs. Chicago's secondary scorers: Kings forward Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson played a major role in helping the Kings build a 3-1 series lead. They have given the Kings impressive scoring depth.
MORE: Blackhawks score bank-shot goal
But those three were a combined minus 6 in Game 6. Meanwhile, Chicago role player Ben Smith has scored a couple of big goals in each of the past two games.
Andrew Shaw's return to the lineup in Game 3 and his elevation to Kane's line in Game 5 gave the Blackhawks a lift. Secondary scoring should be important in Game 7.
Kings' power play vs. Chicago's penalty killers: The Blackhawks were the NHL's best playoff penalty-killing team after two rounds, but they have given up six power play goals in this series.
One can guess that penalty killing will be an area of emphasis for the Blackhawks going into Game 7.
MORE: Goalies bump masks
Jonathan Quick vs. Corey Crawford: Chicago's Crawford and Los Angeles' Quick both have Stanley Cup rings, and both have poor save percentages in this series. Quick has slightly better numbers in the series, but his goals-against average is 3.02 and his save percentage is .886.
In this series, both goalies have looked exceptional at times and average at times. Either could be the difference in Game 7.
